Where to Bird
There are dozens of excellent birding locations in the Cayuga Lake Basin. See below for major and minor hotspots. See Trip Recommendations for suggestions on which spots to visit, or Field Trips for other routes and locations. If you are visiting the area, check the Calendar to see if a field trip is running - you're welcome to join in. Or check to see if there is a CLO walk at Sapsucker Woods.
This is a work in progress. Volunteers are needed to write sections on other hotspots for which we need descriptions: Hog Hole, Freese Road Gardens, Mt. Pleasant, Cornell Compost Piles, Shindagin Hollow, Lindsay Parsons Biodiversity Preserve, Seneca Meadows, Monkey Run, Neimi Road, all the MNWR sites, Empire State Farm Days Fairgrounds, MAC, Helmer Marsh, Long Point, Aurora boathouse, Union Springs, Ellis Hollow Preserve, Beebe Lake, Edwards Lake Cliff Preserve, Newman Arboretum, Edward Babcock Hirshfeld Natural Area, Genung Preserve, Arnot Forest, George Road, Griggs Gulf SF, Sheldrake.
