Southern Highlands, March 3rd 2012

By Matthew Young

Nine people joined me for this trip to Lime Hollow, Summerhill, Bear Swamp, and Skaneateles Lake. We found lots of Pine Siskins at Summerhill and at almost all stops. We saw three, very cooperative White-winged Crossbills on Lick Street in Summerhill. All of us had great looks at a male American Kestrel and a Rough-legged Hawk. Horned Larks were singing (and seen) in Sempronius. At the south end of Skaneteales Lake, we watched displaying Buffleheads, Common Mergansers, and Common Goldeneyes. We saw or heard Common Ravens at many stops as well.
