September 2015 Meeting Minutes

Cayuga Bird Club meeting, Sept. 14, 2015

President Paul Anderson called the meeting to order at 7:30.  Cookies were provided by Colleen Richards and Paul Anderson.  Paul welcomed all and had newcomers introduce themselves.

Treasurer Susan Danskin is collecting dues which are due now.  They are $15 per family and $10 for students.

People mentioned having enjoyed seeing Golden Eagles and a Western Kingbird  recently.  The Migration Celebration was held this past weekend at the Lab of Ornithology.

The next club meeting will be Oct. 12.  The speaker will be Bill Evans giving a talk called "The impact of wind energy in birds in our region: fact versus fiction".  The annual elections for the club will also be held at this meeting.  The nominations are as follows:

Diane Morton has taken on the job of editor of the Newsletter.  It will now go out by email only.

The next Monday night seminar at the Lab will be on September 21 featuring "The Jungle Sarus : Eastern Sarus Crane" by Tran Triet, of the International Crane Foundation.

Help is needed for scheduling field trips. Check the calendar on the website.

The Muckrace will be next weekend.  The club has sponsored a team.  Pledges to the Friends of Montezuma can be made online.

Bob McGuire read the list of the Birds of the Cayuga Basin.

The speaker for the meeting was John Fitzpatrick, Director of the Lab of Ornithology.  His talk was entitled " To Interpret and Conserve: After 100 Years, What Has the Cornell lab of Ornithology Come to Mean?"
